Have you updated the Drivers for the Soundblaster PCI 128?

I have 512mb of ram which should be more than enough for smooth dvd playing etc.

The first thing I tried was to update the drivers as I thought it may have been an incompatability problem which may have been resolved with a driver update. No luck though and it almost seems as if it has gotten worse as a result which has puzzled me even more!

Indexing was already set to manual and was not running so no problems there.

The HDD is working in Ultra DMA mode (as are my DVD and CD-RW drives).

My HDD is set as master on IDE1 with the DVD drive as master on IDE2 and CD-RW drive as slave.

I also downloaded a program called powermax from the maxtor website which checks the disk integrity etc and had no problems flagged whatsoever. Any other suggestions as I am stumped?!

Thanks

could be your sound card and IDE controller are "sharing" an IRQ. I forget the exact spot in my motherboard's bios, but in the PNP section there is usually an option to disregaurd current pnp config and re-assign new recources at reboot.... man i wish i had a motherboard manual to look it up.

Anyway, you can do that and see what happens. Or you could force whatever IRQ you want too through the bios.

To find out what IRQ's things are currently using, go to the Device Manager, view menu, resources by type, then expand the Interrupt requests (IRQ) section.

As always, let us know your solution!

I normally use winamp to play mp3's but have tried with others such as media player and still same results.

I checked out the IRQ values of the sound card and IDE controllers and there seems to be no conflict.

The onboard PCI soundblaster 128 card uses IRQ 17 whereas the primary IDE channel uses 14 and secondary uses 15 so should be no problems there either. Thanks for the suggestion though as I had not checked it out previously.

Sound stutters during disk access

There are only 15 IRQ's. Mine is using IRQ 10

I apolagize for the above post I meant to say 0-15 IRQ's sometimes I write things and don't word them correctly. I also should mention that maybe his board somehow features IRQ's numbered 1-17, Ive heard of that also.
