System Go Slow - Help

Postby Scottttyyyy » Tue May 04, 2004 3:03 pm

For some reason my system processor is constantly at 100% and the internet, even with boradband, can take up to 10minutes for my home page to load up. SVCHOST.EXE seems to be domintaing my CPU usage but I have no idea what this programme does and when I end it the pc shuts down (I dont have the blaster worm before its mentioned)

Anyone got any idea on how to speed this up?? Its a 2.3ghz processor so wouldnt think it should be doing this.

Thanks in Advance

I have run a scan on a weekly basis and the only virus that has appeared is the blaster worm which has been removed. I now have Norton Antivirus and Bulldog installed.

I'll bet it is slow.
Turn off System Restore. (Turn it back on after you reboot after the following) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

Carried out the task as informed, but the CPU still hittin the 100% mark. Upon load up, bulldog is asking me about different programmes connecting to the internet as 04 in the hijack list details. The other thing is the SVChost is again domintaing the CPU usage, is there somethin that can be downloaded to reduce the amount of dll files this is using? (im not pretending to know what they are cause i have no idea). New Hijack list below.

Thanks for the help to date, much appreciated.

You can also use to find and clean off spyware and adware on a regular basis (at least weekly, if not more often). Make sure you "check for updates" each time before running it.

And just generally speaking (and in addition to regularly running AdAware), you can also do the following in a regular (weekly is good) basis to keep the computer running fast:

-- Delete all temp files (c:\windows\temp\*.tmp)

-- Delete temporary internet files (c:\windows\temporary internet files\*.*)

-- If you use I.E., click on Tools, Internet Options, Delete Files, select "delete all off-line content", click OK

-- Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, Disk Cleanup

-- Download and defrag the hard drive

Don't Defrag your drive until this is cleared-up!
Did you follow the instructions I gave earlier? About System Restore and closing all Windows before running the HiJackThis fix?
You have most all of the things we were getting rid of....

phatsyd.....
*Please don't post new Topic in an existing one. You'll get more help if you start a new Topic*

First, you need to be running an Anti-Virus Program.

Turn off System Restore. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows cfg] ascv.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows cfg] ascv.exe

Now, search for and delete this File that is Highlighted then empty your "Recycle Bin" and reboot: (You may have to boot to "Safe Mode" in order to delete some Files/Folders)
ascv.exe
