Urgent XP Home Installation Help!!

Postby Stonka2004 » Wed May 05, 2004 6:30 pm

Luckily my friend is able to let me use his pc to post this urgent message, but anyway, i am trying to re-install windows xp home like i do every few months, and every time i do it, the process runs smoothly, but this time it wants to be a pain the bloody neck!
First i put the disc in and restarted the computer like i do always, but it didnt boot from disc like it should, so i started as normal, and double clicked it in my computer, the menu came up and i followed the instructions to re-install etc.
Then it restarted and went to the setup menu, and at first when i selected the 'setup' menu, it said please wait and just froze [when usualy it says please wait for a split second and goes on...] but thats not a major problem as it only does it soemtimes now, but anyway when i get to where i want, and while it examines the disc, it just freezes on 25% every time, i cant get any further, and on some occasions, a big error comes up saying: 'IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL' so please could someone help me as i am totaly stuck, thank you.

Did you set the Boot order to CD-rom First in the Bios? I'd try installing that way.

Im reading this as if you are re-installing over top of the excisting install. Does XP give you the option to fdisk right from the cd? I normally fdisk 1st then proceed to installing XP which should format before installing. Plz corrct me if I'm wrong but it just didn't sound right. And yes I would set the boot order as brad suggested.
