Is it detected in the Bios? It should probably show as "Slave" on IDE 0 / 1 / or 2.

Ok, what about "Device Manager" under "Disk Drives"?

In Device Manager, under Disk Drives, there is a "Generic IDE Disk Type46". Under settings says "Current drive letter assignment = C". There is also a generic floppy disk drive too.

I just remembered something...whether it matters or not I don't know... The 2 hard drives I have now are Not the ones that came with the computer. The original hard drive was destroyed a few years back and we had to buy a new one.

In your BIOS set that drive to auto Detect or take the info off the HDD and configure it manually.Save the changes and reboot.

I checked all the cables, wrote down all the information etc on the drive and I have done a diagnostic check on it. Everything passed (The disk isn't broken!!) but the Partition Information is absent.

Can I partition the hard drive and Keep all my data? Or does partitioning it wipe the hard drive?

I have two very different hard drives. One is a Maxtor 20GB and the other is a Maxtor 40GB. They are not the same drive, they are separate.

Just got my computer back from the shop and unfortunately, there was no data on my D drive. When I reinstalled windows, according to the guy at the shop, it also formatted the d drive, thus erasing all the files. So that is 5 years worth of Kazaa gone! I had about 20GB of mp3s and videos, so I am a wee bit miffed. Oh well, looks like I am gunna be spending a lot of time on Kazaa getting it all back. Poo!

Thanks for your help anyway, shame it wasn't needed in the end
