fdisk

Postby noby » Sat May 15, 2004 9:39 am

Hi,
recently i had to fdisk reformat a drive, maxtor 6 GB. No problem, i too k my win98 CD, pushed F3 twice to get in the dos screen, did an fdisk without problems. when i looked with the fdisk into the partition data, i found 2 problems : the partition was only 4 Gb and was given a name with graphical characters, which i can't reproduce or i must look them up in an ascii table.
Anyhow, my question is : is there a tool to wipe this partition and install a blank name or simply change the name of the partition?
btw - I have the maxtor powermax utility, so i'm looking for something simpler

Why not boot with the Win98 boot disk and simply type fdisk? During the process you'll have the opportunity to name the drive.

that's what i did if you look in my post above, but now i have a bad partition (only 4 Gb) instead of 6, and i cannot rename the partition

it was only that i was lookong for a utility you could run from within dos or windows to fix this

thanks anyway

U could use a piece of software called Partition Magic to resize your partition. Partition Magic is a lot easier to use than FDISK
