Hijackthis log

Postby glass » Tue May 18, 2004 9:11 pm

Hi,
After getting rid of Wintools by reading this and a few other boards today,
I finally got my XP running as it did before.
Can someone take alook at my HJT and see if I'm OK?
This board was very helpful.
Thanks, Angelo

i'll point out things that seem unneccary and wasteful. I like to keep my system as clean/lean as possible. Many programs are not adware/spyware related, but you may not want them to load at boot time. Quicktime and realplayer are good examples. They install themselves as boot time processes, but are not needed as the files will still open without the tray icon software running.

msdxm.ocx - not spyware, it's the microsoft RADIO toolbar. Don't really know what microsoft radio is, nor do i use it. I'd suggest ousting it.

DWLCLIENT (support.exe) Download manager for Dell support alerts. Checks for dell support alerts. If you keep windowsupdates installed this probably isn't needed

ViewMgr.exe is a bit of a questionable piece of software. The later versions of AIM are bundling this. It claims to be a Media Player, but why would it need to run all of the time?

UPDREG.exe - Application that reminds users to register for their Creative Labs products.

SGTRAY.exe - Part of Storage Guard. Reminds you to do a backup if it hasn't been done for awile. If you automatically remember to backup, delete it... if you don't use storage guard, delete it.

realsched.exe -osboot - real player does not need to load at boot time in my opinion. It MIGHT make real player load faster when you open a file, but unless you play an awful lot of realplayer files .rm, i'd oust it.

SunJavaUpdateSched - jusched.exe - Checks if there are new versions of Java available.

Quicktime - qttask.exe - again, does this need to load at boottime?

WkUFind.exe - Update detector for Microsoft Works 2002 PictureIt. If the detector is enabled, it tries to dial your Internet service provider, connect to the Internet, and download any updates available.
Company: Microsoft Corp.

EHtray - seems to have something to do with windows media center edition - not much info available about this program - unless you use the media center abilities (output to a TV) i'd oust it

dsentry.exe - Application provided by Dell that is anti-spyware. The application blocks other applications that send vital information to other computers. - sounds like a good thing

tfswctrl - suposedly allows you to write to re-writable CD's by dragging/dropping files on them. - sounds neat, if you don't want it though kill it

Diagent.exe - System Tray access for Creative Diagnostics for the Creative SoundBlaster series soundcards. Available via Start -> Programs

Bldbubg.exe - found on many dell machines. No one seems to know what it does

bcmsmmsg.exe - BCM voicemodem driver. Required for dial-up if you have one of these modems

AOLTRAY - do you need an aol icon in the system tray? This is all this program does (adds another way to open AOL) If you don't use the lower left AOL icon, disable this

OSA - launches common part of microsoft office programs. This is done to improve load time of office applications. If you hardly ever use MS word, excel, etc /and or don't care if they take an extra second to load, oust this

O9 - Extra button: Real.com (HKLM) - puts a realplayer icon on the top of your internet explorer window

I did not see any actual spyware on your machine. Looks good from that standpoint. I would suggest removing some of the above programs though to free up some system recourses. I like to load only programs that I use on a regular basis during the boot process.

These aren't biggies but you can "clean-up", none the less.
Turn off System Restore. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:
